Happy Easter & Happy birthday to me!

For the first time in our married life, we spent a holiday together in Midland!  My family’s tradition is to go to the lake for Easter, but my mom has this big event coming up next weekend and wouldn’t be able to come to the lake this year so instead of going for Easter we are going for Mothers Day!  So that left us to stay in Midland at our own church with our little family.  Made me feel like a grown up!  Saturday however we decided to make the quick drive to San Angelo to see our sweet niece, Rose and the fam.  Rose just started really walking and we hadn’t seen it yet, so we went to see her!  What I didn’t know was my sweet husband planned a surprise birthday lunch with the family.  We got to eat my lunch from my favorite San Angelo spot, Mr. T’s, at Nana & Grandad’s house with everyone: Mother in law, sister & brother in law, grandparents, aunt, cousins, Rose!  What a joy!  Stephen knows me well & knows that I LOVE CAKE!  Wedding cake is my favorite part of any wedding, and birthday cake is my favorite thing about birthdays!  Well, when you get older people don’t really give you birthday cake….so a few days after the big 27 Stephen surprised me with my favorite cake (yellow cake with chocolate icing)!  It was DELICIOUS, and how cute is the camera on it?  I was truly surprised!  My husband is always full of surprises, and never ceases to make me feel loved and special.  I had a great birthday & Easter weekend!

After cake, we headed outside to watch Rose do a “practice” easter egg hunt!  This was her first time, so we had to show her what to do, but she LOVED it.  She really loves the color blue (as you can tell) and had fun just playing with that one egg.  Her & her Nanny got up that morning and died easter eggs and it was so fun to watch Martha (my mother in law) face light up when she talked about “her girl”.  It was so fun to watch 4 generations hanging out in the back yard watching sweet Rose hunt easter eggs.  I am blessed to be a part of this family!

Easter Sunday we were invited over to our good friends, the Yocums, house for lunch!  Amanda & John and their boys James & Patrick have quickly become good friends.  Since all of us have been placed in Midland for work – we don’t have any other family in town, so we are each others!  It’s so fun with you can make friends that invite you to be a part of their family for the day when you don’t have any family close.  Amanda did a great job hosting and the food was delicious!  We even had yummy cake balls AND peanut butter ice cream pie for dessert.  James (my boyfriend) loved hunting the easter eggs!  And Stephen & I got a picture together – what a concept!  Thank you Yocum’s for inviting us over for Easter!  We love yall!

Easter ended with a wonderful time at our church, Stonegate Fellowship.  Just reflecting on what Christ did for us on the cross.  It’s powerful powerful stuff.  Reading on my friend Sommers blog, she put it well (from the song) “Praise the one who paid my debt and raised this life up from the dead”.  Christ paid my debt, not because of anyting I did but because of who HE is.  He gave me life & life to the full!  Praise you Jesus!
